Mithun Chakraborty roles unmatched
Posted On Thursday, December 13, 2007 at at 09:42 by rk rishikesh sinhaAnd one hero who fits into this bill was, non other than Mithun Chakrabarty, our Mithunda.
We have traversed a long and serpentine road. No [ Kadapi nahin]. The truth is that we have travelled hundreds light years (!!)[distance travelled by light in one year = I light year], in the way we have started seeing our bollywood heroes, the transition of roles they have donned from the early 80’s to the present day.
In the early 80’s, considered to be the heydays of our Mithun Chakrobarty acting career in bollywood, the heroes used to play the role of a street hawker, our neighbouring mechanic in the half part of the movie, and in the second part becoming a millionaire, was the bottomline of all the stories.
Hot n Sexy Rakhi Sawant "back" is back
Posted On at at 02:48 by rk rishikesh sinhaShe is oomph of many, and for some the most funniest celebrity ever visible in the Indian film industry. Yes, she is Rakhi Sawant of bollywood, more so of the tinsel world of television in the recent times. She was visible today again on “Breaking News” item of a television news channel. Reason. Wardrobe malfunction.
The news channel ran the so called wardrobe malfunction news item repeatedly in the prime time. I was laughing on the news channel of running this item. There were, obviously, many reasons for which I was laughing and amusing myself on the often repeated bare back footage of Rakhi Sawant.
First, the program in which sexy Rakhi Sawant along with her boyfriend were dancing was not the LIVE show, so there was no point showing the item in the prime time. The program that we all have watched comes after it had gone under the scissor of a video editor. So, there was no point in showing a program[news]of the edited program. How a program which has been edited can become the news? Only God, and of course, the director of the show knows and has the answer.
Secondly, the show in which the hot and sexy Rakhi Sawant was performing, after the wardrobe malfunction it could have been shoot again. But it was not done! She completed the song as it should have been done. The director of the show did not stop the camera rolling. Obviously, the director wanted the cheap media mileage by trampling upon the respect of a media savvy Rakhi Sawant.
Whatever may be the reason, whether it was pre-meditated, planned act to get media space or it was really a news to their standard, the only fact coming crystal clear was that the news was indeed of bad taste. At the end I could say Rakhi Sawant is the female “Shah Rukh Khan” among the actresses in bollywood.
What Shah Rukh Khan feels of his age?
Posted On Saturday, November 03, 2007 at at 04:04 by rk rishikesh sinhaNEW DELHI,INDIA
Of these 42 years in this world, 18 years have been spent maintaining a super duper successful career in Bollywood.
Shah Rukh Khan says - I feel more stronger and enthusiastic today. In fact, when I play with my kids’ friends, I don’t use age as a criteria to perform less. I still think I can beat kids half my age at half the things I do, physically I mean. Age has become a number for me now. It doesn’t matter that a few more grey strands have come. I always had grey hair which I have been dyeing for the last five years. I feel I am the most looked after person in the world.
He adds - I don’t look at age as a reason for making more intelligent and wiser decisions. I don’t think what I did earlier was wrong and what I do now is right. It’s the wrongest notion that older people are smarter and wiser, I feel they are just older. In the film industry, someday I read I am ruling more, some days less, someday a younger star has toppled me. I think I am beyond all this now. But yes, it’s been 18 years and people say I have been the King of Bollywood, and I like it. I am not pompous but I don’t know how it feels not to be successful. For me, there’s always been one way and that is success. So I don’t know how it’s not to be the King of Bollywood. I feel it’s my birthright now.
And about Chak De India did not make it to the Oscars? He says - I am happy with the Filmfare award. The Oscar is not something that I will cry about. If I get it, good, if not — it’s ok.
Moreover, about his new ab-solute look. He added - I know people have been saying that I got it through special effects, surgery, and steroids, but I know how much hard work I put into this. When I was working out, I thought, I can’t have bigger biceps than Salman, a stronger chest than John or even wider shoulders than Hrithik, so I said why not concentrate on my abs. See, I have a very oriental kind of physique, like Bruce Lee, so I guess it’s standing out

Zubeen Garg went missing in the Jjhoom India
Posted On at at 01:44 by rk rishikesh sinhaThough he didn't fair well in the opening show of the programme and had to listen unpleasant things from the judges especially from the ace director and producer Mahesh Bhatt, his absence in the show make us all believe that he is irresponsible not only to the show but to his devoted fan following. He was not there when his team was given a thumping victory for getting the required votes to go for the next round. It is of his large pool of fan factor that made him immune from the elimination round.
He is the pride of Assam and of the north east. Whatever happens with him in the show, it indeed casts its effects on the people of this region. What came as disappointing in the show was that his partner Shama Sikander didn't defend him; moreover she said in front of the camera that he [Zubeen Garg] was not present in the rehearsal, and is still not even present in the show. Don't you think such statement against him in front of the whole nation effects his image? It does effect.
By showing his absense he showed his un-participatory nature to the whole television viewers who were glued to their television set to watch him, and his performance.

Akshay Kumar: The most sought after hero
Posted On Thursday, November 01, 2007 at at 12:42 by rk rishikesh sinhaNEW DELHI,INDIA
The whole bollywood, perhaps, revolves around the Khan brothers Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and of course Saif Ali Khan. Amongst these unbreakable pillars, if there is one hero who is the most bankable and most sought after is Akshay Kumar a.k.a Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia.
Cinemagoers love him for his persistent effort to establish himself in the Hindi film industry. If all of them cannot love him, they can’t even ignore him. Such is the footings of this actor in the psyche of movie crazy Indian sub-continent.
He is the perfect hero of the bollywood. His physique is very much macho, his style fabulous and trendy but very much Indianised. He has got all those elements for which people watch Hollywood movies. If he does Matrix like actions, people love it. Furthermore, people go gaga over his comical performances as well. He carries all those elements and traits that we all love to see.
He is the perfect hero, well without any style of his own. His style changes with every movie he does. You give him any action packed movie, true to his salt he will do justice to the role.
After all, during the 90s, Akshay Kumar was known as the highly-energetic and action-packed hero of Bollywood. Films such as Khiladi released in 1992; Mohra released in 1994 and Sabse Bada Khiladi released in 1995, helped him to establish this tag. Who can forget his first hit movie “Khiladi” in the box office?
Now, reports have come that Akshay Kumar has signed a film for Rs 41 crore, which will be directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Venus, has brought him into the big league of highly sought after heroes in the Bollywood. Why not? After all, the success rate of his films has been phenomenal this year.
A quick cursory glance of his movies released this year shows that none of them was a flop. Namastey London was liked by masses and critics alike and was a hit at home and abroad, next comes the Sajid Khan’s Heyy Babyy, which proved to be a superhit at the box-office. Coming to his recent release Bhool Bhulaiyaa, the movie has done remarkably well in India and in the UK market as well.
He is really a hero, a hero who has been striving hard in the Bollywood for two decades for entertaining us non-stop. He is a Khiladi, a true Khiladi.

Shah Rukh Khan: From Chak De India to Om Shanti Om
Posted On Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at at 18:30 by rk rishikesh sinhaNEW DELHI,INDIA
Yes, Shah Rukh Khan is at its pinnacle of his profession – acting. His movies are blockbusters in the box office. His name makes people to throng the cineplexes. And he has been doing the same from his first movie Deewana, to the recently released movie Chak De India.
In the 90’s Shah Rukh Khan was ruling the roost. Almost all his movies in the 90’s: Deewana, Baazigar, Darr, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Karan Arjun,
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Koyla, Pardes, Dil To Pagal Hai
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Baadshah – made him the star, an undiminished star of the bollywood. He conquest the bollywood and in the same stroke conquest the overseas market as well, by becoming the most saleable actor.
Who can forget his performance in the movies Baazigar, Darr, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Koyla, Pardes, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. These films left an indelible mark in the history of bollywood.
He has cast the same magic in the 2000 year plus. He has got many feathers in his cap, and the latest from his coterie of hit movie is Chak De India, which he thinks helped him to establish his name in the cult status of the bollywood actors and actresses. He himself said he was waiting for such movie to be made.
Coming to the 21st century first decade he has given many hit films from Mohabbatein,
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Devdas, Chalte Chalte, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer-Zaara, Swades, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Don - The Chase Begins Again, to Chak De India, released this year. His each movie is skating new heights. And about his forthcoming movie Om Shanti Om, let us see in comparison to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Sawariya, what magic the movie play in the box office and meet the expectation of the critics as well as from his fan followings. It has to be seen.
It is not that his journey to the status that he has gained was achieved in a day or two. Behind this, his innate talent, never-say-die attitude, and of course competition-with-himself has been some factors that has come to play in his success. If you think there are more reasons that made him the Baazigar of the bollywood, do comment.
Let us see how Shah Rukh Khan tackles the trasition from Chak De India to Om Shanti Om!
Who is more handsome: Shah Rukh Khan or Ranbir Kapoor?
Posted On Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at at 21:55 by rk rishikesh sinhaNEW DELHI,INDIA
On the same date Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om and Ranbir Kapoor’s Sawariya is releasing. The producers and directors have given their best shot to keep it floating in the media. You walk past in the Delhi Metro Stations[in the blog]; you will find advertisements of these movies. You open any website; you will be bombarded with these two movies.
Stakes are high in both the movies. After all one is from Shah Rukh Khan and another is form Sanjay Leela Bansali’s debunte actor Ranbir Kapoor, son of Rishi Kapoor. Shah Rukh Khan’s izzat is on stake after the success of Chak De India! He has to prove that he is not one-movie actor.
And about Ranbir Kapoor, I suppose he is more tensed than the Baazigar. It is his first movie. For him, it is a sail or sink situation.
Many would be thinking, or would have started thinking the future of Ranbir Kapoor, comparing with him with Shah Rukh Khan. Who is more handsome, Shah Rukh Khan or Ranbir Kapoor?
One cannot predict the future of Shah Rukh Khan especially at the time when he is giving one hit after another. He is a great gun of the bollywood. His kingship cannot be challenged at this time.
But the charm in his face is dissolving. He is no more the same cutie Shah Rukh Khan of Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. In contrast, Ranbir Kapoor has the same cutie looks. He is handsome but comparing him with Dil Wale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge actor is somewhat done in hurry.
Given that he is handsome than the Chak De India coach, it is not necessary that he will run in the bollywood. Since bollywood have seen many actors who were really cutie in look but they were failure. The list is long. Aashiqui boy Rahul Roy, Kumar Gaurav are case in point. Sometimes a good look of an actor or actress is disadvantageous to them.
But there lies an exception to every rule; Aamir Khan is one, who has matured with his baby face to macho look. Who can forget his first movie Qayamat Se Qayamant Tak opposite Juhi Chawla.
Taking without any bias, and putting weigh, let us see whose movie is more handsome than the other in the market and win the applause of the audience. Handsome is as handsome does!
First Chak De India, Second Om Shanti Om
Posted On at at 18:30 by rk rishikesh sinhaNEW DELHI,INDIA
After Chak De India, where does Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om stand?
That’s a big question. Indeed a very tough question to give a satisfactory answer. Shah Rukh Khan’s previous flick Chak De India![in this blog]attained a cult status in the Hindi film industry, a voluminous film industry where thousands of films are released in a year. In this messy film industry the film Chad De India has made a history of its own, moreover Shah Rukh Khan’s history as well. Shah Rukh Khan got what he was craving for in his whole professional career.
Now, his upcoming movie is Om Shanti Om. His fans, not to mention are impatiently waiting for its release. They do have a mountain of expectation from the movie, and from the Shahrukh Khan’s role.
Their expectation can vanish like fog disappears, if they do not see something extra from Shahrukh Khan. It would be tough on the part of the actor to stand to this expectation.
After Koyla, Om Shanti Om would be his next movie which is based on reincarnation formula, but it has a tinge of 70’s time period. So, people would be seeing the colour and texture of this period when Jeetender, Rajesh Khanna and Dev Anand were ruling the film fraternity and the hearts of the youngsters.
If Shah Rukh Khan can sail through the tsunami of emotions of his fans that they expect from him, he can definitely be called Baajigar, the Badshah, Chamatkar, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, and what not. O! He may be called Om!
Om Shanti Om: Constellation of Stars
Posted On at at 17:43 by rk rishikesh sinhaNEW DELHI,INDIA
In the movie Om Shanti Om, 31 actors and actresses of the bollywood are sharing the same set and camera in the title song – Om Shanti Om. The actors and actress are not only of the present day like Kajol, Shilpa Shetty, Tabu, etc but of the yesteryears like Jeetender, Mithun Chakroborty[in this blog], Dharmendra, and many, all put in one song. It would be fun to see all these heroes and heroines of the bollywood.
What on the earth is making the song interesting and amusing? Of course, to see all these actors and actresses performing their own style for which they are know. Jeetender’s jungle type of dance, Mithun’s Disco style, Govinda’s Mein to Raate Ja Raha Tha style, and Dharmendra’s no movement dance.
Its making was really funny. And I suppose the song in the movie Om Shanti Om would be really full of fun and energy. What are you expecting from the movie and from the particular song? Do comment. Well, I would love to see Mithunda’s dance.

Madhuri Dixit appearing in Aaja Nachle
Posted On Thursday, October 25, 2007 at at 12:32 by rk rishikesh sinhaNEW DELHI,INDIA
The magic of Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit will be again hit the cinema screen after 6 years of oblivion from the Hindi film fraternity. In the movie Aaja Nachle, the Tezaab girl is showing her appearance; and people, especially her fans are eagerly waiting for its release.
The movie Aaja Nachle is coming with bunch of stars alongside with Madhuri Dixit. They are Akshaye Khanna, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Kunal Kapoor. It has to be seen how people react to this movie and to her beauty. But one thing is sure the movie will get good opening all across the nation since in a entertainment-hungry country there exists a big fan following of the actress. They will definitely throng the cinema halls to watch her.
Last time people saw her in the movie Devdas, playng the role of Chandramukhi. Her role opposite Shah Rauk Khan begged the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. She dominated the Hindi film industry since her first "hit" film Tezaab opposite Anil Kapoor, that was in 1988. If one goes through her career statistics, she has been truly dominating the movie industry, in that industry where the life span of heroines are much shorter than their actors. From her first movie Abodh, released in early 80's to her previous movie Devdas, released in 2002; she has acquired an iconic status where, it is believed, no actress has since been able to replace her, her magical spell.
She has got many feathers in her cap to boast off, from the movie Tezaab, to Ram Lakhan, to Beta; adding to it Khalnayak, Pukar and the most recent Devdas in her long list of hit movies. She got married to Sriram Nene in the year 1999 and got settled in United States. Who can forget her role in the movie "Dil" opposite Aamir Khan, “Saajan” against Salman Khan and “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun”, the blockbuster movie!
Now, the same Madhuri Dixit who has ruled in the hearts of millions of youngsters will be again hit the silver screen playing the role of a theatre actress in Aaja Nachle under the banner of Yash Raj Films. A million dollar question that is in everyone's mind is - Can she able to spell the same magic, revert the same dancing steps?

The changing face of Bollywood movie publicity
Posted On Saturday, October 20, 2007 at at 12:46 by rk rishikesh sinhaNEW DELHI,INDIA
In recent times it has become a trend in television to showcase the songs of a to-be launched movie in many musical programmes. The contestants participating in the so called talent search programmes sings the movie's songs; by doing so they not only popularise the songs in the midst of their fan followings but helps in the promoted-publicity of the movie.
It has become a necessity on the part of the directors or say producers to give maximum publicity through this programmes, since it has a direct impact on the drawing rooms all across the nation, even abroad. If one goes through all the musical programmes, dance programmes, or in any sort of contestants- driven shows, there is a flurry of sponsored edition in that particular show.
In these shows, the publicity of the movie takes place in a very entertaining manner. The truth is that at the bottom of this special edition that are being telecasted comes dynamics of the market, the much luring market driving these shows.
Depending upon the TRP rate of a programme, it is being approched strategically. So, in those shows where the TRP rate of a programme is high, and carry a whirlwind impact, one would see not only the actors and actresses showing their presence but the whole team being present there. A case in point is the programme Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, a music driven show in the Zee TV where recently the whole team of the movie Das Khahaniyan were present from the director to the actors and actresses, and to the singers.
It was a much subtle publicity stunt to discuss about the movie and what the movie is all about. Their presence in the show builds up a direct publicity amongst the viewers of the show. Here the publicity is mutual. The show not only boasts of the presence of the actors and actresses, but they capture a much bigger audience. On the other hand, the particular movie gets no cost publicity to a larger audience.
Not to forget, the communities that cropped up in the social networking site like Orkut before the movie hits cineplex. This media also helps to gauge where the public is swaying. Thus, giving invaluable inputs to the success and a failure of a movie. You name a movie, any upcoming movie, you will find there exists a community being coined to the movie.
Bollywood is maturing, and so is its publicity tactics.

Amanat Ali : a Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contestent rocks India
Posted On Friday, October 12, 2007 at at 12:12 by rk rishikesh sinhaHe is Amanat Ali, a contestant of the Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa musical show, who with his song Tujhase Naaraaz Nahi Zindagi (available in esnips.com)from the movie Masoom not only brought tears in the eyes of the all the judges and guest stars present there in the show, but in the eyes of all television viewers. His soulful song absolutely mesmerized everybody.
No doubt, all the singers in the last leg of the show - Aneek Dhar, Amanat Ali, and Raja Hasan are best of the best and carry a mass fan following. All about Amanat Ali is totally different and unique. Not to forget Tushar Sinha was also in the competition.
His last song in the show Tujhase Naaraaz Nahi Zindagi came as a break in the flow of the show. It had a drifting effect. The colour of the show totally changed after he sang the song. One can say he infused life in the song. It is a different story the song itself is heart touching and it relates to everyone's life, but singing the song maintaining the credibility is not everyone's cup of tea. Singer like Mika tried the song taking the opportune time in the show, but he miserably failed to mesmerize the audience, not only of the viewers but also of the whole team of Das Kahanaiyan movie.
Amanat, a ardent fan of Shah Rukh Khan, cried while he was singing the song. And it was felt by all the viewers sitting in front of the their TV set. The finishing touch he gave to the end leg of the show cannot be better than the way he finished.
Music doesn't have any boundary, and Amanat Ali from Pakistan has proved the same. When he sings people forget the tag of nationality he carries. People just forget everything. Now when the programme has entered into the declaration of the winner. It doesn't matter who wins in the musical show, whether the title holder is from India or from the other side of the fence. They all are talented in their singing trait.
Lyrics of Tujhase Naaraaz Nahi Zindagi [courtesy yash.wordpress.com]
tujhase naaraaz nahi zindagi, hairaan hoon main
o hairaan hoon main
tere masoom savalon se pareshaan hooN main
o pareshaan hoon main
jeene ke liye socha hi na tha, dard sambhalane honge
muskuraoon to, muskurane ke karz utaarne honge
muskuraoon kabhi to lagata hai
jaise hontonn pe karz rakhaa hai
tujhase …
aaj agar bhar ayi hai, boondein baras jaayengi
kal kya pata inke liye aakhen taras jayengi
jaane kahan gum kahan khoya
ek aansu chhupake rakha tha
tujhase …
zindagi tere gum ne hamain rishte naye samajhaye
mile jo hamain dhoop main mile chhaanv ke thande saaye
o tujhase …

Are we safe in Delhi Blueline buses?
Posted On Tuesday, October 09, 2007 at at 23:43 by rk rishikesh sinhaBy Pranati Saikia, NEW DELHI,INDIA
Crying faces, bleeding bodies, heart rending wails echoed Delhi sky once again on Sunday morning. This time the mishap took place on Mathura Road in Badarpur, near Aligaon crossing. The killer Blueline again created havoc by ramming into 15 people waiting for bus on the pavement. It caused death to 7 people and left few seriously injured and many panic stricken. It is alleged that the driver was drunk. He lost control and hit people standing on the road.
What’s going on? It is not the first time when such rash driving and irresponsibility robbed people of their lives. These series of accidents are not just matter of concern but taking the form of hovering fear of death. Who knows who will be the next victim? Whether one will get back home safely or not, cause boarding and deboarding Blueline buses itself becoming fear of invisible death, making boarders victim of cruel destiny, without one’s awareness.
Buses are one of those amenities which are meant for people’s convenience but these accidents have brought forth the gruesome pictures of human error, negligence of moral duty and ignorance. Consequently, now buses are gradually becoming danger to human lives.
Drivers and conductors often seem to be short-tempered, excited and indulge in speed competition with one another, apply sudden brakes to the buses and make passengers to suffer due to their whimsical and careless driving.
Delhi government has taken few concrete steps to stop these accidents. But still these life taking incidents are happenings.
It is important that the driving hands must be experienced. The man on the driving seat must be balanced, careful and vigil towards his duty as a driver. Driver and conductor must have friendly approach and moral behavior besides having professional ethics. Sufficient time must be given to passengers while boarding and deboarding the bus, so that they could be well settled.
On the other hand, traffic rules are being set to be followed but these accidents have implied clearly that rules are being violated by the Blueline buses. Moreover, speed-governors have also been tempered with by most of the buses. In this context, the government must take strict action against these violations. Deployment of PCR vans are not only the solution. The intentional crimes must be awarded with capital punishment as these killing people.
We people also ought to be conscious of our rights as passengers and pedestrians.
What Rahul Gandhi's life has in store?
Posted On at at 10:52 by rk rishikesh sinhaBy Pranati Saikia, NEW DELHI,INDIA
At a time when left’s tough stand on nuclear deal is creating political havoc for center’s UPA government, congress president Sonia Gandhi took a decisive step in latest reshuffle of the party’s organization. However, this assessed to be a preparation for looming mid-term polls.
In this much-awaited reshuffle, she elevated her son, Rahul Gandhi to a congress post by appointing him as the AICC general secretary in charge of the Youth Congress and NSUI and member of the congress working committee. This significant development has an important implication for both, 37 year old Rahul’s future prospects as a politician and the congress as party as well.
In his first interview with foreign media, Rahul regarded himself as uniter of the country and expressed his commitment to fight against divisive politics based on caste and religion. His recent induction into the organization of the party is an opportunity for him to groom his lacklustre image into a sharp, refined national level congress leader who can not win just electoral victory but also a nation’s trust.
His induction also signifies that the old congress party, though lately has started believing on the potential of younger generation leaders who have power of youth, freshness of ideals and strong ambitions. Rahul seems to represent a generation that could bring back remarkable political achievements to the party.
Nevertheless, it is indispensable for Rahul to emerge as a young leader having own individual stature of goodwill and strength. He has to transcend the boundary of inherited political legacy.
On the other hand, congress has to retrieve back its initial position of being India’s single most dominant political party that laid the foundation of the democratic political system in the developing world. During country’s freedom struggle, it represented nationalist cause to unite a heterogeneous society of people.
It is regretful that now party has lost its idealism and innovation. Gradually due to dissidence and defection, it lost its intra-party democracy and cohesion. These loopholes have to be dealt with mellowness. Induction of Rahul Gandhi could be regarded as renovation of party’s organization in a sense that it could help overcoming old deficiencies and generating new constituencies having new voters below 30 and appreciate Rahul as a young national leader to represent them, their aspirations wishes.
On the other hand, party has to extend its organization across the whole nation and down to the village level. For this purpose, Rahul has to work extensively with sincerity by visiting remote areas too, where people have lot of problems unsolved. Is Rahul Gandhi hearing?

What is LIfe?
Posted On Monday, October 01, 2007 at at 00:08 by rk rishikesh sinhaBy Pranati Saikia, NEW DELHI,INDIA
Life starts with a cry; it ends with a sigh; we go on striving until we die.
It all started when I stepped into this world from my mother’s womb. Oblivious of my prenatal existence, I sought to memorise my mother’s face, my father’s voice and whoever came near me to take me in their arms to cuddle me and to make me smile.
Gradually, I toddled behind my mother’s walk. Holding things with my tiny hands, my steps firmed with steadiness and affirmation of my individual existence, having separate being and a strife to survive. With the passage of time, I strived to be something and often in those heavy moments, my heart asks self with a silent heave “What is life”?
It embraces us ever since we took birth and made us holding it tight as if it loves us. It captivates us and we move to its times, dancing, singing, crying, passing through trials and tribulation to accomplish it. Its magical illusions cast spell on our wisdom and made us addicted and intoxicated. Soon we forget our real self rather we forget life also in its real sense.
Nevertheless we all love it, for life makes us alive. Despite of its dreary courses and enervating strife, life is precious with all its raw beauty and profound mystery. One cannot deny, however, human life today witnessing plight of being standing at the verge of existence. Materialism has given birth to commercialization which has made man a commodity and human life a market.
Consequently, competition and professionalism has given rise to market value and utility. All these together devaluate the divine essence of humanity. Modern human society is the blending of complexities and amenities. Man is bewitched with ever-increasing allures of materialism. Though he has made immense progress by means of science and technology, his life has become mechanical. His constant pursuit of material comforts has made somewhere his life suffocated.
It is time that man has two entities humanity and animality Gathering both entities, he leaves no stone unturned to be the survivor. Often, in his strife, he makes random and blind moves, diabolism over-possessed his humanity and he inflicts pains upon his fellowmen. Yet he feels pride to be the killer of humanism just for his own benefits and motives.
Heinous crimes, blood shedding, rampant corruption, hypocrisy, inhuman manifestations, and deceptions have made human life bleeding to death. Nature has made everyone unique and no one can take the position of other. But, we human beings are prejudiced and biased. We favour differentiation and disparities on the base of caste, creed, religion and even region too.
Life is God’s gift. It is all-pervasive and never-ceasing. Ideas and philosophies mould life. Actions and deeds interpret life. We live it with desires, passions, dreams and aspirations. We work hard and make efforts to materialize our dreams but we ought to understand, life is wayward, flows in its own course. Ultimately it leaves us alone to seek it all again. It is short but we have to make it large by compassion and love, cause love makes life colurful, beautiful and blissful, not the materials for which we kill ourselves and our humanity.
Book Review : Vikram Sarabhai - A Life
Posted On Sunday, September 30, 2007 at at 07:18 by rk rishikesh sinhaBy Anurabh Sinha, Guest Writer
The biography is titled 'Vikram Sarabhai~a life~' authored by Amrita Shah.
This biography by Amrita Shah delves deep into the real character behind the name Vikram Sarabhai. The biography starts by taking us into Vikram Sarabhai’s childhood. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he had a princely childhood. His doting parents ensured that he was reared up in the best possible fashion.
As a toddler, Vikram turned out to be noticeably energetic and showed flashes of his brilliance during the growing up years. His love affair with Science began in his school days when he worked in his specially constructed ‘home-labs’. With the passage of time, the interest became a full fledged passion.
Coming from a highly renowned family made things pretty easy for him as he traveled world wide meeting some of the greatest scientific minds of his time. The book has some very engaging episodes of his encounters with the likes of Millikan, Raman and Bhabha.
The author very successfully unravels different facets of the great man’s personality. To his children, he was the most doting father they could have had, often taking on the mantle of a ‘single parent’ to help his wife pursue her passion for dance. On the family front though, all was not well.
There was always the shadow of the ‘other woman’ looming large. He was quintessentially a man who could charm people and get the best out of them. Man management was something that came naturally to him, whether it was working with a grass root level worker or with the top brass.
A philanthropist to the core, Sarabhai was instrumental in the setting up of some of the best institutes in the country to date, including the IIM Ahmedabad. This was his humble contribution towards the greater cause of nation building. He was someone who had his own views on serious issues like nuclear technology and space exploration.
Counted amongst the greatest scientists of his time, these were also the issues that were close to his heart. Towards the later stages of his life, he had a tough time handling men with political inclinations.
The author has done tremendous amount of research in coming up with this biography making it a very interesting read. Loads of amusing incidents and anecdotes are scattered throughout the book. This apart, there is also a rare collection of photographs tracing the life of Sarabhai from a toddler to the Vikram Sarabhai known to us. Once you have started with the book, you won’t feel like putting it down.
Amit Paul and Prashant Tamang : The Political Prawns
Posted On Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at at 12:55 by rk rishikesh sinhaNEW DELHI,INDIA
The Indian Idol III would be remembered for some special reason – it has been politicized entertainingly. Political leader do take the mass appeal of actors and actress for their political gains. But it has been first time witnessed that the most powerful persons of India UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh meeting with the contestants and showing their interest towards a purely entertainment programme Indian Idol.
Since the first day of it’s beginning, Indian Idol has been inviting artists as guests from Indian film industry, Bollywood. Explicitly, it is a not a new phenomenon that has been added in the show. However, in recent times it has become the best marketing tool to promote any programme.
What could be the possible arithmetics done on the part of media advisers of Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh that led them to appear for the photo shoot with the contestants of the Indian Idol? Answer to this can be simple and straight as a stick; and may be very complex with multiple rings of political cobwebs. It is very tough to answer.
One thing is sure, the media advisers of both the two political bigwigs Sonia and Manmohan did honest political manthan, atma manthan (introspection) before suggesting them to appear with Amit and Prashant, the two last finalists of the show.
If one sees from the other perspective of the show, that is, from the promoter and the marketing team fence, the appearance of Sonia and Manmohan Singh came as a winning situation.
The primary reasons that prompted Sonia and Manmohan Singh to align towards the participants may be counted on the popularity of the contestants Amit and Prashant in their respective regions or say on the creed they belongs to. Amit Paul is a bengali and Prashant is a Nepali. Associating them might help the grand old party Congress to score it in the vote bank politics.
Moreover, it may give the party to sneak and penetrate into the mass fans of the two. Now, when mid-term poll is looming large over the nation, and where no party wants an isolation from the youth; a rapport build – up with the contestants might help in the long run or in the short run.
It is not that every act on the part of the politicians should be scanned and given a political twists and turns. They being the powerful persons of a country it becomes their responsibility to encourage the youths who are talented and enthusing them to excel in their respective fields.
Prashant Tamang : The new Indian Idol
Posted On Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at at 12:43 by rk rishikesh sinhaNew Delhi
In every game there is a winner and a loser. So is the case in the Indian Idol musical extravagant show where two titans Amit Paul and Prashant Tamang fought for the crown. And after stiff competition between the fans of the two, at last the Darjeeling boy clinched victory and won the Indian Idol title.
Prashant Tamang is the third Indian Idol who was coveted with the title. The first Indian Idol was Abhijeet Sawant. It is reported that in the history of Indian reality television the volume of the total votes that the Indian Idol III procured is a record in itself. According to the reports, 7 crore votes it garnered, which comes as an eye-opener about the popularity of the show and the mass appeal of the final contestants.
Now when the Indian Idol III has come to its end. The show will be remembered for its outstanding performances of the contestants. All the contestants were at par against each other. They were from different background and regions of India. If there was Amit Paul from Shillong, there was Prashant Tamang from Darjeeling; and not to mention Emon from Kolkata, Ankita Mishra from Kanpur, Meiyang Chang from Dhanbad, Parleen Singh Gill from Jammu.
Those who were closely watching the show from the beginning knows it was unexpected that Prashant would reach to this stage and will steal the show. Prashant's path to success isn't simple as it seems. It is very unnatural a policeman would try for a competition. But he tried and went through all the tests that all participants underwent.
The West Bengal Police Department must be appreciated that they allowed him to participate in this musical extravaganza. Now,when he has brought glory to the police force and West Bengal police in particular, the personnel employed in the forces might think of their unexplored and latent talent.
It is worth mentioning, the runner up of the show Amit Paul was not lesser talented than Prashant Tamang. He has got everything that a contestants wants; moreover he was bestowed more than that. He swayed the whole nation by his singing talent. But in the game of electronic SMS votes and call, all that matter is the volume.
Now when the game is over, here comes the testing times of both the singers Amit Paul and Prashant Tamang to prove their mettle that also in the real world where there is no winners and runner-ups. Let us hope they will be able to make a space in the musical world of India.
Who will be the next Indian Idol III?
Posted On Thursday, September 20, 2007 at at 09:36 by rk rishikesh sinhaNEW DELHI,INDIA
Top 2 finalists of the Indian Idol III, Amit Paul and Prashant Tamang are now face to face in the run to win the title. Between the two of them, one is our next Indian Idol and the other is the runner-up. But no body knows who will be the Indian Idol and the other a runner – up.
Hopefully, for two of them this is their golden period, they have left behind Emon, Mayang Chang, Ankita, Parleen, Charu and many innumerable contestants.
From the beginning of the show it was unexpected; Prashant will reach to this stage of the show. Being the avid Indian Idol fan, I can realize and imagine how the Nepalis from different part of the world and West Bengal police department in particular, would be feeling; they would be feeling proud with the success Prashant was bestowed upon.
But, the success that Prashant is showed upon was not planned and achieved in a day. He has struggled a lot during the whole period of the show. Sometimes he got demoralized and criticized facing tough competitions from Emon, Amit and Chang. And it was all live. The whole nation has witnessed when judges were giving honeyed comments to almost all the contestants, and he was left out.
Though he was giving his best shot in his singing capability and judges claps in his performance; and whatever you would like to call this – God Grace or Public Grace. Fortunately, he has never being in the bottom. Now, he is going forward to make his community and police department proud.
What is to say about the shillong boy Amit Paul, I think he was the only easy-going contestant who has never been criticized and demoralized by the judges. Remember, the technical singer Emon was commented harshly by the judges. Not to forget every contestant was rebuked by the judges. But, the rule of the exception was broken by Amit Paul.
Let us see..who wins the title.
O! My Child Where are You?
Posted On Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at at 09:18 by rk rishikesh sinhaRanita Sinha,Kolkata
In today's so called modern e-world a child's childhood is lost somewhere in oblivion.
My heart becomes heavy when I see my daughter busy with her sole companion - the television. Right from morning till bed time she is engrossed with cartoon network, Pogo, Disney, Nick Toon, Hungama, etc. She dresses in front of the television, she takes her food and even prefer reading her books in front of it. She can think nothing else than the cartoon characters and her video game and the computer games- the only games she is accustomed with.
Looking at her, sometimes, I remember my childhood days. Those days were so different from today's. With four siblings in the family we used to have lots of fun. We had lots of space to play too. And being in a joined family we had lots of cousins and we did not have any end to have fun. But in today's nuclear family a child is confined to a 2 to 3 bedroom flat, with no space to move around and with lots of video games and the Television, as the sole companion. But during my childhood days, we used to play lots of outdoor games like cricket, seven stones, hide and sick, kite flying, climbing trees, fishing etc. We as children were so unlike the children of today.
When children these days are busy watching television or playing video or computer games, we were busy playing the game of gilli danda, or stealing fruits from somebody else's garden, or flying kites or fishing. When today's child are computer savvy, we excelled in the art of sharpening the threads used for flying kites. If today you ask a child about the materials used to sharpen the threads, he will not be able to say the necessity to sharpen the thread. Many of them do not even know the name of games that we used to play.
It is really pathetic to see that today's children are deprived of all the fun and happiness they are supposed to have. I heartily wish if the pace of life would have spared at least these little angels.
A Peep into the Bishnupriya Manipuri Culture
Posted On Friday, September 14, 2007 at at 09:35 by rk rishikesh sinhaKailashahar, Tripura ,INDIA
Language, culture and literature - these three are the essence to mankind. The co-coordinated developments of these three characteristics are the determinants of progress for any community. It is a truth a community which has lost its culture and civilization exists like a dying or withering entity. Hence, culture and literature both together is like a soul to a community.
Language is the carrier of culture and civilization of the men. Language is an inborn acquisition to the men. Language is so natural which seems as autonomous faculty like the movement or respiration. The social temperament sprouted in the primitive men through the language, this temperament or trend expanded in different way in different direction and restored the primitive men rational and reflective.
There is a Bishnupriya Manipuri language in India which belongs to the Indo-Aryan branch of language. Its structure and grammar follows the system of Sanskrit and Hindi. The initial form of this language, according to Dr. K.P.Sinha is found in a rain invoking song of 1515 A.D. But a comprehensive grammar of the language is yet to be composed.
About the Bishnupriya Manipuri language, it is a language talked by a community called Bishnupriya Manipuri.
The beautiful and delicate form that emerges on the refinement of physical life is called culture. Thought, idea, art and literature, religion, entertainment etc. of the human being are manifestation of the culture. The social life is one of the means to make man's spiritual nature towards betterment. It is closely related with the social system. The culture of Bishnupriya Manipuri community is based on spiritualism.
The Bishnupriya Manipuri embraced Chaitanyaite Baishnavism in the 18th century. Since, the initiation to Baishnavism the Bishnupriya Manipuri was influenced enormously by the Baishnavic philosophy and thought. This community has considered the Baishnavic scriptures as a means for liberation and accepted it as stair for attainment of devotion to Hari.
Probably for this reason Rasa Lila (sports of Lord Krishna with gopies, samkirtan, rakhal dance etc.) has got pivot role as a form of classical dance. There are certain very valuable and praiseworthy customs and traditions in the Bishnupriya Manipuri society. We may mention about the absence of any caste system. There are only one or two Brahmin families in a village who act as the priest in the village and perform all rituals and pujas, remaining all others are Kshatriyas.
Secondly, the Bishnupriya Manipuri does not practice dowry system which is a very significant aspect in India. Thirdly, there exists a bond of unity and fellow-feeling. For instance, when death occurs in any family of the village, it is expected that at least one male member from each household shall attend the funeral. Each family also shall have to contribute a fixed amount for performance of the rituals. Such community assistance is very helpful for the poor families in distress.
Fourthly, the aged and the superiors are always respected and given preferences in social receptions and gatherings irrespective of their economic, educational or administrative position.
Besides these, below are some of the notable common cultural features of the Bishnupriya Manipuri –
1. Avoidance of non-veg food i.e fish and flesh in rituals.
2. Wearing of garlands made of tulsi (basil) beads / wooden apple.
3. Use of tilaka is an auspicious occasion is applied at ajna chakra- the space between the two eye brows at the space of third eye.
4. To lie down in bed with head either towards the east or south.
5. Compulsory initiation irrespective of male and female.
6. Ban on shradha on the day of eleventh moon or ekadasi.
7. Planting and worship of tulsi (basil).
No human society exists without believing in super natural entities like God. The BPM community is also not an exception. The religious believes and practices which find place in the socio-religio-cultural life of the Bishnupriya Manipuri is undoubtedly derived from the Gaudiya Baishnavism which essentially saturated with the tenets of Srimadbhagavatam and other Goswami works.
Bishnupriya Manipuri which is a minority community having no home land is known to the multi cultural people in India alone for its culture

What Amit, Debojit and Qazi have in common?
Posted On Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at at 23:37 by rk rishikesh sinhaNEW DELHI,INDIA
Indian Idol III: Amit Paul shares a common thread with Qazi of Fame Gurukul and Debojit of Sa Re Ga Ma. Explore what is the bottomline amongst them.
Amit Paul:
The Shillong lad has made the people of the hilly terrain to swell with proud. Watching the public response in the Indian Idol III towards him was amazing and exemplary. The hilly state known by Khasi and Jaintia communities going berserk against a Bengali lad is something which is hardly seen.
If there is something which is bringing the populace of Meghalaya to one stage is their affinity which they all share; and Amit Paul has did the same with the universal language of music. He has brought the picture of Shillong in the national television and in the world arena. It is a remarkable and to – be – noticed step, how a young boy made his name in the national musical show, but also given a name to the state he belongs to.
His effort will definitely infuse life to the young boys and girls of the state. They will come down to the plain and will be exploring the possibilities available here. And they will be successful since they do have musical culture. They love music, and they enjoy it. It is in their life. Chief Minister of the state Zoramthanga bestowing upon him the ambassador of peace of the state is noteworthy.
It is supposed Amit Paul is the first person who with his first shot in the musical arena was given this prestigious nomenclature ever given by a state to their budding singers. It is a different story that Amit Paul got eliminated earlier, but with the wild card entry he again came into the musical extravaganza.
And since then he is rocking the stage with his mellifluous voice. Those who are closely watching the television show will be knowing how his song Pehla…Nasha…Pehla ….Pyar …He… from the movie Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander and Nasha …Ye ….Pyar ..Ka..Nasha ..He… from the movie Mann mesmerized the whole television viewers, and the judges.
In the past couple of years, in the frenzy SMS musical shows, many talented singers were thrown into the top position and they have won the game, thanks to the regional tone and tenor (read tag) they carry. They become the symbol of the state and people do everything to make them win the race. The whole machinery of young blood is poured upon them.
Debojit Saha:
In this regard, Debojit Saha who represented Assam from the region Silchar in the Sa Re Ga Ma musical show is a classic example. He won the title with the support of the state. The volume of the votes that he garnered overshadowed his rival. Not to mention the bad mouth of the judges helped him winning the show. Regional media captured the news giving the people of the state to get united in the musical maha sangram.
Qazi Tauqeer:
There is Qazi Tauqeer of Kashmir who participated in the Fame Gurukul and won the title. With the help of the regional affinity and of his charismatic personality he swayed the whole nation and ultimately won the game. He was catapulted within days as a young hero representing trouble torn Kashmir. He never passed the musical test but thanks to his fans following he was never shown the exit door.
Now the clock is back on Amit Paul. Looking at the mass response of this lad it seems he is going to be the next Indian Idol III; coronation of the title will be in the namesake only. But not to forget his competitor, Prashant Tamang, a Nepali of Darjeeling is in the grand finale. He also carries the trans-regional-national affinity of Nepalis. He never came to the danger zone, the exit door.
Fans of the two titans will definitely fight tooth and nail to make their idol win the game. It will be a close fight. Both have the mass of volume of fans heavy. And they will do everything in the sake of sake of region/ state and the cultural affinity.
