Why Movies are Banned?

It is said that films are the mirror of society. Films reflects as well as influence the course of society by interpreting and showcasing the various aspects and complexities of human life. Though it seems to be glamorous and alluring, but film making is an uphill task. It is a creative process, which requires unyielding perseverance, strong commitment and above all adequate funds to meet with the demands of a good script. Excellent theme, superb screenplay and heart rendering music and lyrics make a film not only a box-office hit but also unforgettable.

Films have always been an integral part of Indian life style. People in India not only watch but they imbibe films, get influenced and moved by the themes. Recently, noted director Ashutosh Gowarikar's latest film 'Jodha Akbar' became controversial issue for a section of society over the name of 'Jodha'. Rajput organisation Kshetriya Mahasabha in Uttar Pradesh protested and alleged that the film maker had distorted history, which hurt their sentiments. It has been banned in Uttar Pradesh, Madhaya Pradesh and various cities of Haryana and Uttarakhand.

Couple of months back, 'Aaja Nachle' was also banned in Haryana and Punjab due to controversial lyrics 'Bazar mein machi hai maramar, bole mochi bhi khud ko sunar' from the title song ' Aaja Nachle'. According to reports, the song had offended people belonging to scheduled castes.

Similarly, in 2000, Hindi films faced banning in the northeastern region of the country. It was alleged that the Hindi films undermine the cultural values of the states.

It is a known fact that films have been censored for one or the other reason. Often these include objectionable scenes, overriding of facts and figures and transgression of established norms in society. 'Kissa Kursi Ka' [1970] and 'Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love' [1996] are two of the movies that would be knowing.

But we cannot deny the truth that Indian psyche is vulnerable and gets hurt every now and then. As the themes of Indian films includes societal situations, social values and burning issues, so the integrity on the part of director is also indispensable. Sensitive issues based on casteism, communalism, customs and culture of a particular region must be dealt with honesty and cautiously so that there must not be any aggression and violation.

But the important thing to note is that Hollywood films are warmly welcomed and vociferously watched by the Indian audiences despite so much objectionable scenes, and alienated story lines. Is it only because of the reason that Indian people don't understand the language of these films? May be.

Nevertheless, the media coverage that these organisation get by stirring up the hornets' nest is another reason that movies are banned. And now, when media is all around peoples' mass reaction to any particular movie has become easy self-triggering.

Mithun Chakraborty roles unmatched

The hero remains decent, sober, up-right, straight, honest and very poor [add all positive adjectives] person in the first part of the movie, in contrast in the second part he becomes a don with a million-dollar style statement, later he takes revenge against of all those villains who helped him to increase his status, had been the skeleton concept, perhaps, of all movies in the early 80’s.

And one hero who fits into this bill was, non other than Mithun Chakrabarty, our Mithunda.

We have traversed a long and serpentine road. No [ Kadapi nahin]. The truth is that we have travelled hundreds light years (!!)[distance travelled by light in one year = I light year], in the way we have started seeing our bollywood heroes, the transition of roles they have donned from the early 80’s to the present day.

In the early 80’s, considered to be the heydays of our Mithun Chakrobarty acting career in bollywood, the heroes used to play the role of a street hawker, our neighbouring mechanic in the half part of the movie, and in the second part becoming a millionaire, was the bottomline of all the stories.

And Mithunda’s movies were the perfect example of this transition. It is understood, at the end of the movie, Mithunda assassinates, murders those who have been instrumental in increasing the stature of his cinematic role. That was my idol Mithunda’s movies story plot. And without much involving our mind, mental conscience we used to enjoy the mechanic, hawker [in Disco Dancer] role played by him.

And now suppose, for god sake, if we had to see the present day hero like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar in the role what Mithunda played in his time. What would be 4- Khan’s and Kumar’s reaction? A complete no-no. The same would be the public’s reaction, they will not be able to digest their heroes being shown in the last element of the long economic chain.

It is true; movies are the mirrors of the society. Mithunda’s movies show the persisting society of that time, which had been very much black and white in colour, India was still being under the inspector/ licensee raj, IT non existent, the so-called boom was nowhere in the economy. Consequently, the heroes were either ending up their role as a poor man or son of a super rich father. A case in point, Shah Rukh Khan’s role in his perhaps all movies starting from Deewana where he played the role of love stricken boy, remember his role in Dilwale Dilhaniya Le Jayenger, he played the role of a son of a NRI.

Time has indeed changed, Mithunda’s role cannot be relived and rejuvenated.

Hot n Sexy Rakhi Sawant "back" is back

She is oomph of many, and for some the most funniest celebrity ever visible in the Indian film industry. Yes, she is Rakhi Sawant of bollywood, more so of the tinsel world of television in the recent times. She was visible today again on “Breaking News” item of a television news channel. Reason. Wardrobe malfunction.

The news channel ran the so called wardrobe malfunction news item repeatedly in the prime time. I was laughing on the news channel of running this item. There were, obviously, many reasons for which I was laughing and amusing myself on the often repeated bare back footage of Rakhi Sawant.

First, the program in which sexy Rakhi Sawant along with her boyfriend were dancing was not the LIVE show, so there was no point showing the item in the prime time. The program that we all have watched comes after it had gone under the scissor of a video editor. So, there was no point in showing a program[news]of the edited program. How a program which has been edited can become the news? Only God, and of course, the director of the show knows and has the answer.

Secondly, the show in which the hot and sexy Rakhi Sawant was performing, after the wardrobe malfunction it could have been shoot again. But it was not done! She completed the song as it should have been done. The director of the show did not stop the camera rolling. Obviously, the director wanted the cheap media mileage by trampling upon the respect of a media savvy Rakhi Sawant.

Whatever may be the reason, whether it was pre-meditated, planned act to get media space or it was really a news to their standard, the only fact coming crystal clear was that the news was indeed of bad taste. At the end I could say Rakhi Sawant is the female “Shah Rukh Khan” among the actresses in bollywood.

What Shah Rukh Khan feels of his age?

NEW DELHI,INDIA

Of these 42 years in this world, 18 years have been spent maintaining a super duper successful career in Bollywood.

Shah Rukh Khan says - I feel more stronger and enthusiastic today. In fact, when I play with my kids’ friends, I don’t use age as a criteria to perform less. I still think I can beat kids half my age at half the things I do, physically I mean. Age has become a number for me now. It doesn’t matter that a few more grey strands have come. I always had grey hair which I have been dyeing for the last five years. I feel I am the most looked after person in the world.

He adds - I don’t look at age as a reason for making more intelligent and wiser decisions. I don’t think what I did earlier was wrong and what I do now is right. It’s the wrongest notion that older people are smarter and wiser, I feel they are just older. In the film industry, someday I read I am ruling more, some days less, someday a younger star has toppled me. I think I am beyond all this now. But yes, it’s been 18 years and people say I have been the King of Bollywood, and I like it. I am not pompous but I don’t know how it feels not to be successful. For me, there’s always been one way and that is success. So I don’t know how it’s not to be the King of Bollywood. I feel it’s my birthright now.

And about Chak De India did not make it to the Oscars? He says - I am happy with the Filmfare award. The Oscar is not something that I will cry about. If I get it, good, if not — it’s ok.

Moreover, about his new ab-solute look. He added - I know people have been saying that I got it through special effects, surgery, and steroids, but I know how much hard work I put into this. When I was working out, I thought, I can’t have bigger biceps than Salman, a stronger chest than John or even wider shoulders than Hrithik, so I said why not concentrate on my abs. See, I have a very oriental kind of physique, like Bruce Lee, so I guess it’s standing out

Akshay Kumar: The most sought after hero

NEW DELHI,INDIA

The whole bollywood, perhaps, revolves around the Khan brothers Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and of course Saif Ali Khan. Amongst these unbreakable pillars, if there is one hero who is the most bankable and most sought after is Akshay Kumar a.k.a Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia.

Cinemagoers love him for his persistent effort to establish himself in the Hindi film industry. If all of them cannot love him, they can’t even ignore him. Such is the footings of this actor in the psyche of movie crazy Indian sub-continent.

He is the perfect hero of the bollywood. His physique is very much macho, his style fabulous and trendy but very much Indianised. He has got all those elements for which people watch Hollywood movies. If he does Matrix like actions, people love it. Furthermore, people go gaga over his comical performances as well. He carries all those elements and traits that we all love to see.

He is the perfect hero, well without any style of his own. His style changes with every movie he does. You give him any action packed movie, true to his salt he will do justice to the role.

After all, during the 90s, Akshay Kumar was known as the highly-energetic and action-packed hero of Bollywood. Films such as Khiladi released in 1992; Mohra released in 1994 and Sabse Bada Khiladi released in 1995, helped him to establish this tag. Who can forget his first hit movie “Khiladi” in the box office?

Now, reports have come that Akshay Kumar has signed a film for Rs 41 crore, which will be directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Venus, has brought him into the big league of highly sought after heroes in the Bollywood. Why not? After all, the success rate of his films has been phenomenal this year.

A quick cursory glance of his movies released this year shows that none of them was a flop. Namastey London was liked by masses and critics alike and was a hit at home and abroad, next comes the Sajid Khan’s Heyy Babyy, which proved to be a superhit at the box-office. Coming to his recent release Bhool Bhulaiyaa, the movie has done remarkably well in India and in the UK market as well.

He is really a hero, a hero who has been striving hard in the Bollywood for two decades for entertaining us non-stop. He is a Khiladi, a true Khiladi.

Shah Rukh Khan: From Chak De India to Om Shanti Om

NEW DELHI,INDIA

Yes, Shah Rukh Khan is at its pinnacle of his profession – acting. His movies are blockbusters in the box office. His name makes people to throng the cineplexes. And he has been doing the same from his first movie Deewana, to the recently released movie Chak De India.

In the 90’s Shah Rukh Khan was ruling the roost. Almost all his movies in the 90’s: Deewana, Baazigar, Darr, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Karan Arjun,
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Koyla, Pardes, Dil To Pagal Hai
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Baadshah
– made him the star, an undiminished star of the bollywood. He conquest the bollywood and in the same stroke conquest the overseas market as well, by becoming the most saleable actor.

Who can forget his performance in the movies Baazigar, Darr, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Koyla, Pardes, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. These films left an indelible mark in the history of bollywood.

He has cast the same magic in the 2000 year plus. He has got many feathers in his cap, and the latest from his coterie of hit movie is Chak De India, which he thinks helped him to establish his name in the cult status of the bollywood actors and actresses. He himself said he was waiting for such movie to be made.

Coming to the 21st century first decade he has given many hit films from Mohabbatein,
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Devdas, Chalte Chalte, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer-Zaara, Swades, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Don - The Chase Begins Again,
to Chak De India, released this year. His each movie is skating new heights. And about his forthcoming movie Om Shanti Om, let us see in comparison to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Sawariya, what magic the movie play in the box office and meet the expectation of the critics as well as from his fan followings. It has to be seen.

It is not that his journey to the status that he has gained was achieved in a day or two. Behind this, his innate talent, never-say-die attitude, and of course competition-with-himself has been some factors that has come to play in his success. If you think there are more reasons that made him the Baazigar of the bollywood, do comment.

Let us see how Shah Rukh Khan tackles the trasition from Chak De India to Om Shanti Om!

Who is more handsome: Shah Rukh Khan or Ranbir Kapoor?

NEW DELHI,INDIA

On the same date Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om and Ranbir Kapoor’s Sawariya is releasing. The producers and directors have given their best shot to keep it floating in the media. You walk past in the Delhi Metro Stations[in the blog]; you will find advertisements of these movies. You open any website; you will be bombarded with these two movies.

Stakes are high in both the movies. After all one is from Shah Rukh Khan and another is form Sanjay Leela Bansali’s debunte actor Ranbir Kapoor, son of Rishi Kapoor. Shah Rukh Khan’s izzat is on stake after the success of Chak De India! He has to prove that he is not one-movie actor.

And about Ranbir Kapoor, I suppose he is more tensed than the Baazigar. It is his first movie. For him, it is a sail or sink situation.

Many would be thinking, or would have started thinking the future of Ranbir Kapoor, comparing with him with Shah Rukh Khan. Who is more handsome, Shah Rukh Khan or Ranbir Kapoor?

One cannot predict the future of Shah Rukh Khan especially at the time when he is giving one hit after another. He is a great gun of the bollywood. His kingship cannot be challenged at this time.

But the charm in his face is dissolving. He is no more the same cutie Shah Rukh Khan of Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. In contrast, Ranbir Kapoor has the same cutie looks. He is handsome but comparing him with Dil Wale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge actor is somewhat done in hurry.

Given that he is handsome than the Chak De India coach, it is not necessary that he will run in the bollywood. Since bollywood have seen many actors who were really cutie in look but they were failure. The list is long. Aashiqui boy Rahul Roy, Kumar Gaurav are case in point. Sometimes a good look of an actor or actress is disadvantageous to them.

But there lies an exception to every rule; Aamir Khan is one, who has matured with his baby face to macho look. Who can forget his first movie Qayamat Se Qayamant Tak opposite Juhi Chawla.

Taking without any bias, and putting weigh, let us see whose movie is more handsome than the other in the market and win the applause of the audience. Handsome is as handsome does!

First Chak De India, Second Om Shanti Om

NEW DELHI,INDIA

After Chak De India, where does Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om stand?

That’s a big question. Indeed a very tough question to give a satisfactory answer. Shah Rukh Khan’s previous flick Chak De India![in this blog]attained a cult status in the Hindi film industry, a voluminous film industry where thousands of films are released in a year. In this messy film industry the film Chad De India has made a history of its own, moreover Shah Rukh Khan’s history as well. Shah Rukh Khan got what he was craving for in his whole professional career.

Now, his upcoming movie is Om Shanti Om. His fans, not to mention are impatiently waiting for its release. They do have a mountain of expectation from the movie, and from the Shahrukh Khan’s role.

Their expectation can vanish like fog disappears, if they do not see something extra from Shahrukh Khan. It would be tough on the part of the actor to stand to this expectation.

After Koyla, Om Shanti Om would be his next movie which is based on reincarnation formula, but it has a tinge of 70’s time period. So, people would be seeing the colour and texture of this period when Jeetender, Rajesh Khanna and Dev Anand were ruling the film fraternity and the hearts of the youngsters.

If Shah Rukh Khan can sail through the tsunami of emotions of his fans that they expect from him, he can definitely be called Baajigar, the Badshah, Chamatkar, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, and what not. O! He may be called Om!

Om Shanti Om: Constellation of Stars

NEW DELHI,INDIA

In the movie Om Shanti Om, 31 actors and actresses of the bollywood are sharing the same set and camera in the title song – Om Shanti Om. The actors and actress are not only of the present day like Kajol, Shilpa Shetty, Tabu, etc but of the yesteryears like Jeetender, Mithun Chakroborty[in this blog], Dharmendra, and many, all put in one song. It would be fun to see all these heroes and heroines of the bollywood.

What on the earth is making the song interesting and amusing? Of course, to see all these actors and actresses performing their own style for which they are know. Jeetender’s jungle type of dance, Mithun’s Disco style, Govinda’s Mein to Raate Ja Raha Tha style, and Dharmendra’s no movement dance.

Its making was really funny. And I suppose the song in the movie Om Shanti Om would be really full of fun and energy. What are you expecting from the movie and from the particular song? Do comment. Well, I would love to see Mithunda’s dance.

Madhuri Dixit appearing in Aaja Nachle

NEW DELHI,INDIA

The magic of Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit will be again hit the cinema screen after 6 years of oblivion from the Hindi film fraternity. In the movie Aaja Nachle, the Tezaab girl is showing her appearance; and people, especially her fans are eagerly waiting for its release.

The movie Aaja Nachle is coming with bunch of stars alongside with Madhuri Dixit. They are Akshaye Khanna, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Kunal Kapoor. It has to be seen how people react to this movie and to her beauty. But one thing is sure the movie will get good opening all across the nation since in a entertainment-hungry country there exists a big fan following of the actress. They will definitely throng the cinema halls to watch her.

Last time people saw her in the movie Devdas, playng the role of Chandramukhi. Her role opposite Shah Rauk Khan begged the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. She dominated the Hindi film industry since her first "hit" film Tezaab opposite Anil Kapoor, that was in 1988. If one goes through her career statistics, she has been truly dominating the movie industry, in that industry where the life span of heroines are much shorter than their actors. From her first movie Abodh, released in early 80's to her previous movie Devdas, released in 2002; she has acquired an iconic status where, it is believed, no actress has since been able to replace her, her magical spell.

She has got many feathers in her cap to boast off, from the movie Tezaab, to Ram Lakhan, to Beta; adding to it Khalnayak, Pukar and the most recent Devdas in her long list of hit movies. She got married to Sriram Nene in the year 1999 and got settled in United States. Who can forget her role in the movie "Dil" opposite Aamir Khan, “Saajan” against Salman Khan and “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun”, the blockbuster movie!

Now, the same Madhuri Dixit who has ruled in the hearts of millions of youngsters will be again hit the silver screen playing the role of a theatre actress in Aaja Nachle under the banner of Yash Raj Films. A million dollar question that is in everyone's mind is - Can she able to spell the same magic, revert the same dancing steps?

The changing face of Bollywood movie publicity

NEW DELHI,INDIA

In recent times it has become a trend in television to showcase the songs of a to-be launched movie in many musical programmes. The contestants participating in the so called talent search programmes sings the movie's songs; by doing so they not only popularise the songs in the midst of their fan followings but helps in the promoted-publicity of the movie.

It has become a necessity on the part of the directors or say producers to give maximum publicity through this programmes, since it has a direct impact on the drawing rooms all across the nation, even abroad. If one goes through all the musical programmes, dance programmes, or in any sort of contestants- driven shows, there is a flurry of sponsored edition in that particular show.

In these shows, the publicity of the movie takes place in a very entertaining manner. The truth is that at the bottom of this special edition that are being telecasted comes dynamics of the market, the much luring market driving these shows.

Depending upon the TRP rate of a programme, it is being approched strategically. So, in those shows where the TRP rate of a programme is high, and carry a whirlwind impact, one would see not only the actors and actresses showing their presence but the whole team being present there. A case in point is the programme Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, a music driven show in the Zee TV where recently the whole team of the movie Das Khahaniyan were present from the director to the actors and actresses, and to the singers.

It was a much subtle publicity stunt to discuss about the movie and what the movie is all about. Their presence in the show builds up a direct publicity amongst the viewers of the show. Here the publicity is mutual. The show not only boasts of the presence of the actors and actresses, but they capture a much bigger audience. On the other hand, the particular movie gets no cost publicity to a larger audience.

Not to forget, the communities that cropped up in the social networking site like Orkut before the movie hits cineplex. This media also helps to gauge where the public is swaying. Thus, giving invaluable inputs to the success and a failure of a movie. You name a movie, any upcoming movie, you will find there exists a community being coined to the movie.

Bollywood is maturing, and so is its publicity tactics.

Chak De India Review: The Passing Feelings

NEW DELHI,INDIA

Chak De India Defined: You laugh. You love. You ponder. You feel Indian.

Chak De India is Chak De India!! After the movie it is damn sure you will come out rejuvenated with tons and tons of energy. You feel nice, you feel light, and you feel an instant urge to share each and every emotion that has stricken you, of course if you could come out remembering everything.

Above all, I feel that you will appreciate the movie to make you feel that the real beauty of India lies in its unity in diversity. It is just like the way petals are attached to a flower that makes what India is. A frank admission if you are really a person who cannot stop or hide emotions and put everything in words, then it is better you take a friend who can patiently listen your bakwash, and doesn’t interrupt you.

You can understand and might have gauged till now how I am feeling after coming out watching the movie. The movie is fantastic, out of the bollywood style of masterpiece.

There is no part, character in the movie about which you can say it was not necessary and irrelevant. From the first scene to the last scene, you sway with the movie. In the direction part, I can understand it would have been a tough job to delete and keep the tempo of the movie. Great work from every department of the movie, I would like to add if you are expecting something like bollywood work of cinema with songs, actions and end-knowing stories, than I am sorry there is nothing in the movie minus India wins in the whole affair of game.

Take my word. The movie will keep you on your toes. You will become the part of the movie. You will laugh, cry and bite your nails.

In the movie Shimit Amin’s direction is flawless. There is nothing to mention about the editing work done; it is absolutely marvelous, what you see is what you hear. Actors included Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya Malvade, Sagarika Ghatge, Shilpa Shukla, Chitrashi Rawat, Anaitha Nair, Shubhi Mehta, Sandia Furtado, Arya Menon, and Masochon V. Zimik have done a stupendous job. Though most them were facing the camera. Music by Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant is something to talk about.

The film starts with the Hockey match. Don’t miss if you have a habit of entering cinema hall late. Captain Kabir Khan (Shahrukh Khan) misses a goal at the end of the match, which causes the team to lose the game. A little scuffle between him and journalistic-twist ruins his career making him responsible of the loss against Pakistan in the final. Seven years later, Kabir returns with a proposal to coach the Indian Women's Hockey team for which he was desperate to coach. He is selected to coach the women’s team.

From the first day of his countenance to the 16-hockey players; his struggle to see them play united goes, and it goes till the end of the movie. That is the recipe of the movie around which the whole story revolves. The camera-work of the game showed would make you feel you are watching a real match. Finally the women’s hockey teams wins.

In the movie, the effort and the honesty with which Shahrukh Khan (as Kabir Khan),
Sagarika Ghatge as Preeti Sabarwal,
Chitrashi Rawat as Komal Chautala
Shilpa Shukla as Bindia Naik
Tanya Abrol as Balbir Kaur
Anaitha Nair as Aliya Bose
Shubhi Mehta as Gunjan Lakhani
Seema Azmi as Rani Dispotta
Nisha Nair as Soimoi Kerketa
Sandia Furtado as Nethra Reddy
Arya Menon as Gul Iqbal
Masochon V. Zimik as Molly Zimik
Kimi Laldawla as Mary Ralte
Kimberly Miranda as Rachna Prasad
Nichola Sequeira as Nichola Sequeira
Raynia Mascarenhas as Raynia Fernandes

played is such it could be given a 21-gun salute.

Jose Maurinho

Let me add about the Shah Rukh Khan acting, the way he dressed up, and his overall looks carrying a light beard has been influenced by Chelsea manager Jose Morinho.

Go and Watch the Movie – Chak De India. It is a very saaf-suthhri movie..you can take your sister, as I took; well earlier I was apprehensive about the film.

Chak De India: film depicting India by hockey with a team of women

NEW DELHI,INDIA

Coach Shah Rukh Khan in Chak De India

Shah Rukh Khan playing the role of a coach in the film Chak De India which hits theatres this Friday, is in publicity spree of the movie. At first, it was the book on him hitting the store, followed by giving flurry of interviews. BY doing so, he makes it sure the producers make money from his project. Here is what the King says about his new upcoming movie.

Question: What was your real reason for doing this film? Was it the fact that it was a great opportunity to shed light on a sport or was it a great story to tell, or was it a little of both?

Shah Rukh Khan:
Neither of the two. Actually I am not so socially conscious neither do I understand stories. Very simply put is that I wanted to play some hockey after 20 years.

I keep telling my producer and director that I hope after the film is released there are five-six people who say 'oh, I haven't played hockey for a long time man!' Or a father or a mother picks up a hockey stick and tells their children go play the game. So, if people in India start doing that then it is good enough for me.

Question: On one level Chak De India is a patriotic film isn't it? And you play a Muslim coach of the national women's hockey team. Is that symbolic and done to destroy stereotypes?

Shah Rukh Khan: Actually, you can say it in one line that it is a destruction of stereotype – it 's a film about India, headed by a Muslim, playing a game called hockey with a team of women. So, it completely breaks all stereotypes.

I believe in the educated Islamic sect, I belong to it and educated Muslim people are the nicest people in the world. That is my religion and I would like to propagate that through my film without shoving it down your throat. I am not shoving my religion down your throat. I am trying to say that the ideology of an educated Muslim is what my ideology is – that you believe in humanity. courtesy: cnnibnlive

One Man amongst 16 Females

NEW DELHI,INDIA

Shah Rukh Khan as coach of Indian Girls Hockey Team in Chak De India

From the last few months the condition of box office is very bad. Leave apart block buster, yet not a single “hit” film has appeared, or has been able to show their existence. Every Friday all those movies released disappoints us, take Partner, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Aap Ka Saroor, recently released Cash etc…

I even did not remember the last movie that I watch in the hall. But now I am anxiously waiting for the Yash Chopra’s Chak De India, which is going to be released on August 10. After all entire movie consists of Shah Rukh Khan and bunch of 16 females. What would be the chemistry of the team?

Grapevine is that it has a different story; obviously the story would be different since there is no big heroine’s name attached to the movie. It is a common knowledge; hence imminent conclusion the movie that is introducing the song (in television) in the playground and in the dressing room will be based on hockey. Don’t you think the song’s picturisation is very different, away from the thik…chak…song, hero and heroine dancing with bevy of girls?

From the trailer of the movie, I come to know that his name in the movie is Kabir Khan, who is the best coach available for the Indian girls hockey team. Well, if I am not wrong the movie will consist of ups and down, emotional set back, some personal, and some professional problems related to in-built red tapism in the system; with all these encumbrance at last the team wins, thanks to Kabir Khan aka Shah Rukh Khan consistent, never dying effort, the teams wins. Typical Indian movie story line up. But I will go to watch the movie; to see has there been any change from my hypothetical story. Guess, what would be the story.

Music is altogether different. In the song Ek Hockey Dungi Me Rakke…camera revolves around16 girls, all in the mood of introducing themselves through the song. As far as my General Knowledge goes, most of the girls are new, keeping aside only two I was able to recognized.

There is a girl I don’t know her name, in the trailer moving hockey was in some of the movie and she had also acted in an advertisenmnt of Santro with Shah rukh where she say “Santro wale”.

And another girl who is saying Coach Ka To Kam He …Mazein Ke Dusman Aaye..in the song was the contestant of MTV Hero Honda Roadies.

In the movie, the look of Shahrukh Khan is very different and very coachy in nature. On the date of the release, shah rukh’s movie will clash with Salman Khan’s Hollywood movie Marry Gold. But I believe Shah Rukh will emerge as a winner; one thing is sure and confirmed even he fails (God forbids) the other girls will be able to give a good landing off to the movie.

The boat of Abhishek anchored in Indian Idol III

NEW DELHI,INDIA

I remember Anu Malik saying Abhishek in the “run of the Indian idol III”. But the irony is that he is out of the competition forever. His performance will not be visible to his fan. He was one who was different in the bunch of contestants.

I think his previous performance had cost him dearly. One would say bad luck had stroke him hard. If one watches the contestant’s previous performance, then he was not the only one who did not sang well as compared to other contestants. Imagine Amit Paul forgotten the song assigned to him. How funny, it seems!!!!

In his one song Rup…Tera…Mastana…, I remember Javed Akhtar commented that this song is like bomb ……He got bored listening this song innumerable times, but the way Abhishek sang didn’t made him feel bore; moreover the song brought him the same craziness the song carry. Of this fact, he has been thrown out from the Indian idol III.

The news of Abhishek removal did not come as a surprise since in the danger group of the four contestansts: Emon, Ankita, Puja, and Abhishek; he was the one who had the maximum probability to leave the competition.

Emon had a good fan following so is the case with other contestants. So if someone was left he was Abhishek. His previous bad performance in the folk round is one more reason that added fuel to his elimination.

Since I am not able to fill up the pain that I felt after seeing his elimination, I sat to write about him and catch the thoughts crossing my mind. I will miss him.

I face Sanjay Dutt

NEW DELHI,INDIA

All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players.

It came as a complete revolution, an U-turn in the life of Sanjay Dutt, a Bollywood actor, and present day Munna Bhai MBBS aka Lage Raho Munnabhai. He was sent to the place, where he had been 13 years ago – jail.

He was sentenced for an act he did 14 years ago buying a 9 mm pistol and an AK – 56 rifle from people who a month later unleashed the 1993 Mumbai blasts that killed 237 people.

By now, you would have started thinking this is not an exclusive news what I am describing since the electronic media especially has been updating on it in splits of seconds, and not to mention everywhere-anytime websites creating a crescendo like phenomenon of it.

OK fine!! That person Sanjay Dutt has been convicted for what he had been accused of after prolong legal battle that ran a plus decade becoming the world's longest running terrorism case. How his conviction cast any distant affect on us? It cannot be!! In a country where thousand of convictions take place this is not the first and the last.

Sanjay Dutt's roller-coaster life is crystal clear; we know his ups and turns, his success and failure, and almost everything about him. Have anyone ever spared a thought to explore where we have been, what we have been doing, when his name was first time dragged into the case, and was sent to jail under the draconian law – TADA.

No movie could be as dramatic, as involved, as imposing as the life of Sanjay Dutt's portrayal in his real life.

I suppose few have put their memory-clock back asking what they have been doing just 13 years back. One thing is clear - people have changed and so is the time. I have also changed in my internal fabric. I have changed place, changed friends and what not. In this arithmetic progression of life, I started losing something while gaining something in return.

I remember, 14 years back when Samju's name came to limelight for assisting terrorists of Mumbai bomb blasts, I went along with one of my Delhi friend, who had come to Kashmir first time, to an undisclosed place only to watch the hardcore "terrorists". Though it was his wish to see this elements in real life, I was not at all interested as I have encountered them many times in "captive" or "free".

While reading the conversation that took place between Judge Pramod Kode and Sanjay Dutt. I felt how helpless a man finds when he encounters his past deeds, which has not been filled or leveled with in the ebb and flow of time. How a men heap together the mistakes of their lives, and create a monster they call Destiny, and Sanju destiny was almost sealed with the pronouncement.

In the conversation Sanjay Dutt begs to the Judge allowing him to make a call and grant him time to surrender. He says, "I will return day after tomorrow. I have some family matter to settle and my sister is also pregnant. Sir, in the last 14 years you’ve known me better than my own family. Please give me relief". Read the full conversation.

Sahi He Biru..chinta nahin karne ka. "Nothing can harm a good man, either in life or after death."

Coming to our visit that we made to watch out the terrorists. As we zoomed into the highest security jail near the famous Dal Lake, Kashmir. What I saw a sea of kashmiri people, majority of them old and young women had gathered near the fortified gate. There were no young male figure visible. Astounded to see such massive gathering I asked the guard "What this gathering is all about?" He said that they have came here to meet the "terrorist".

And as soon as we got down from our bullet-proof gypsys, I was flocked by the mass of the people, begging with clasped hands expecting me as a big "Indian" shot who could allow them to meet their sons and brothers. I was completely taken aback seeing old men who couldn't even walk properly praying me and young women weeping in front of me . I was speechless and dead as a doornail unable give a reaction. At last the the congregation was forcefully dispersed by the guards.

While my friend's father had already communicated of our arrival at the place where terrorists were holed up. There we were welcome by an officer. My new friend was looking very inquisitive to know everything about the captured terrorists, how they are being treated and where do they sleep, almost everything. I was not much interested to know all this stuff.

While we were offered kawa (local tea) the way the person quoted me with "sir" jerked me from inside. Much bewildered to listen "sir" from someone who is triple of your age. I instantly looked at the person offering tea and I immediately recognized him as a terrorist who has been given the task of helping official task.

The officer coming to know that my friend is interested to know about terrorist instructed the guards to pull off a purdah that was enclosing the next room. There I saw an old man in the kneeling position sitting covering his face. The officer told us that he is a terrorist. He is a professor.

Then the officer asked by friend to enter the room where they were kept. Upon repeated insistence I went along with him. While we were entering the room, dozen of terrorists were smilingly saying "Hey! You came hear to see us. See us." They were all smiling at us, laughing at us that we have gone there only to see them as we all go for watching animals in zoo.

It was suffocating, very much inhumane on my part since my brain was not able to absorb what I was seeing. At last the time came when we parted the officer. When we came outside the complex I saw barricades were put up, one side occupied by the families and the other side by the parents.

As if I haven't seen anything I quietly sat in the gypsy and zoomed back to my house.

Life is a matter of a miracle that is collected over time by moments flabbergasted to be in each others presence.

NOW after 14 years I remember and feel for that old professor who was newly brought in the jail (read concentration camp)and I saw him crying. Has he been released or still languishing in jail? ...Who knows...Hope lingers...

The last minute talk between Sanjay Dutt and Judge

NEW DELHI,INDIA

Sanja Dutt: In the last 14 years you (Judge) have known me better than my own family.

'Don’t lose faith in yourself'

As Judge Pramod Kode pronounced the sentence, Sanjay Dutt burst into tears. As he gathered his composure, he requested the police constables to let him speak to the judge. A dramatic conversation followed.

Dutt: Sir, please tell the policemen not to surround me and treat me as a convict.

Judge Kode: Door ubhe raha. (Stand away from him.)

Dutt: Sir, I want to request something. I know it is much, but please can you grant me time to surrender? I will return day after tomorrow. I have some family matter to settle and my sister is also pregnant.

Judge Kode: There is no provision under the law to grant you relief.

Dutt: Can I at least make a call to my daughter?

Judge Kode: OK, allowed.

Dutt: Sir, in the last 14 years you’ve known me better than my own family. Please give me relief.

Judge Kode: I am doing my job. Once the sentence is pronounced, there can be no more concessions. Do you want me to commit an illegality?

Dutt: Sir, I am just requesting. It’s your discretion.

Judge Kode: I have been giving you concessions for the last 10 years, but not now.

Dutt: Sir, please keep me and Yusuf (Nulwalla, Dutt’s friend who was also sentenced) in one jail.

Judge Kode: Both to be kept at Arthur Road till their application for not shifting them outside Mumbai is decided. Jail officials to give proper security… Sanjay, I have just done my duty. During the conviction too I had said you are not a terrorist. Today also I say you are not a terrorist. You know what you have done. I don’t want you to lose faith in yourself.

Dutt: Yes sir, it’s just that I am tired.

Judge Kode: Yes, I know but don’t lose faith. You are No 1 in your field. In the 10 years, you have done well even during the trial... You should be like Gregory Peck, who acted in films like McKenna’s Gold.

Dutt: (Says nothing, merely nods his head.)

Judge Kode: Which was the last film your father acted in… (pauses)… Munnabhai! He looked better than you. As your father acted till his last moment, so must you… I have sentenced you to only six years, of which two years have already passed and the remaining four will also pass quickly. You also have lawyers who can appeal to higher courts. Courtesy : Hindustan Times

Who is Zubeen Garg?

What's his name?...Who sang the song Ya..Ali..?...Is what he himself and his fan wouldn't like to hear?

NEW DELHI,INDIA

Though his song is very popular amongst youngster, he is not popular as his song is. Why not? He is not the poster boy of those television shows where famed and one-song wonder singer shares seats as judges. He doesn’t appear in dozens of bollywood-based programmes. He doesn’t appear in the ‘Coffee with Karan’, a programme anchored by Karan Jahor in Star One. Very important! And he doesn’t have “CONTROVERSIES” that would surely place him in the Page 3. He is just like you and me, miles away from the limelight, busy in our own world.

He is the most sensational, and the most revered iconic figure of Assamese film industry. His name and his songs doesn’t need introduction. Well, it is not for which he is recognized beyond Assam and of course in the northeastern part of India. It is his songs sung by him that put up musical charts on fire, for which he is acknowledged.

When did you last time hear the song Yaaa…Ali ..from the movie Gansgstar? OK! You can’t remember. Of course it is not possible from everybody’s part to remember when did he/ she hear any particular song. Same here. I also can’t remember when did I last time hear the song Ya…Ali? But I remember an incident associated with this song, which you will find ‘very funny’!

This incident happened months ago back. It was early in the morning I boarded a bus from Cannaught Place to go to Laxmi Nagar. I placed myself on a seat just beside the driver. And as soon as my lower part of my body touched the seat the song Ya…Ali took off from the Delhi’s ubiquitous radio. The driver got so much mesmerized by this song, it seems the song has been able to express him much better.

At first, he started crooning the song, finding nowhere to the song. He stopped singing the song and shared with me the secret that I did not know. And the song Ya…Ali was sung by none other than a Dubai based singer!!!! I got flabbergasted with his knowledge – General Knowledge (GK).

I didn’t tell him that the singing maestro “Zubeen Garg” sang the song. No doubt, Ya …Ali …gave him the necessary impetus to hover over in the musical arena at the national level. But being his fan, I find he is not cashing in with the status at presently he is bestowed upon.

I really feel sorry for him. He is not utilizing from the vantage point he is in. And I have point to say.

You open any television channel, you will find singers, lyricists, and music directors etc...seating and judging contestants. Don’t you think their appearance makes them household names and the same time the ‘camera coverage’ they do enjoy, which I think and it is the truth, their appearance gives them the oxygen that is required to their professional success?

There are many singers; actors and actresses, to name a few who have sailed through their troubled time, thanks to high penetration power of small tube – they have anchored their ship firmly. Ask Sonu Nigam of Sa Re Ga Ma, Shaan of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa; Rakhi Sawant, Ravi Kishan, Carol Gracious, Aryan Ved of Big Boss; and not to forget Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty, how there are professional life was brought to track. They will not deny the role the programmes played in their life.

Few days’ back I got astounded and it virtually made me to bite my nails when I saw Babool Supriyo of Kaho Na Pyar He in MTV Ishq Deewane, a programme based on the love affairs of celebrity spouses.

Let me remind, Zubeen lend his voice “Jane Kya Hoga Rama Rey Jane Kya Hoga Mola Rey” in the movie Kaantein. He also sang “ Jane Kya Chahe Man Bawra….” from Pyaar Ke Side Effect movie.

I would request him to work on his media PR. If possible employ a good secretary, a media savvy secretary in his pay roll, before he dies from the audience of small tube. He must understand he cannot remain to this medium. Even if he thinks the medium doesn’t play any role in ones professional career. The superstar of Bollywood, the badshah of hindi film industry, Shah Rukh Khan is the best example who made his life from television.

That’s all….

I will stand by him till the end

Love knows no law

NEW DELHI,INDIA

It was like another morning for me. Two newspapers bundled with a rubber band were thrown into the 2nd floor of my building and it fell near to my window. As usual to catch my cab I hurriedly picked up the newspaper and ran towards my pick-up destination. Before I leave, I checked whether I am carrying my purse, mobile and the official ID. I found everything was in its proper place.

And after waiting for few minutes I got a miss call. I didn’t care to see who has remembered me and has given me a miss call. In my figment of my imagination I was not expecting something is waiting for me, which will catch my eyes and will make me write on that incident.

The cab arrived and I took my front seat, and with no time we were driving towards the destination. I was not concerned which road the cab had taken and what is the status of traffic. Whenever I looked outside the imposing big buildings of Delhi were visible. I remember the cab had taken roads from the market to citadel of power of the whole India.

I unbundled the newspapers and started reading it. I gave a cursory glance to the first page, 2nd page and got involved flipping the pages after reading minutely the headlines and one or two paragraphs.

The first page of the July 20, 2007, the Delhi edition of the Hindustan Times read “TV news to be shackled” and in the anchor article it was “Last Potter book is in the leaky cauldron”. Both these news item did not struck me hard capable to make inroads into my heart and brain.

There was a news item in the inside page of the newspaper that froze my heart and made me read again and again. It has the opening sentence "I will stand by him till the end” and headline: “Love knows no law”.

The news item was related to the sentences passed by the Special TADA Judge to the key alleged culprits who have masterminded 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. But what relation it had with the ‘love’? How the pristine entity like ‘love’ could be used or have the relation with the heinous crime. This thought really befuddled me.

The whole report read:

“I will stand by him till the end” said Mubina Parkar outside the Tada court on Thursday after Special Judge P.D. Kode awarded capital punishment to Shoeibh Ghansar for planting the bomb at Zaveri Bazaar bomb, which killed 17 people. "We shall fight it out in the Supreme Court. God willing he will be a free man," said Mubina. A burga-clad Mubina was inconsolable after Judge Kode announced the sentence saying: "He (Ghansar) came into the conspiracy late but played a major role by planting a bomb." All the while, Ghansar just sat with his head bowed, prayer beads in hand. The 36-year-old Mubina fell in love with the 44-year-old Ghansar at the Arthur Road jail where she would visit her father, Dada Sharif Parkar, one of the main landing agents also sentenced in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case. The 82-year-old Parkar was sentenced to 14 years' in prison and fined Rs 5 lakh. Mubina, who studied law, has turned down several marriage proposals. She has been waiting for Ghansar's release so they can marry "I have waited for 14 long years and will wait further to marry him. I have a strong belief in the judiciary and I hope the Apex Court will let him off," she said.

Courtesy: The Hindustan Times

What did you feel reading the whole news report? Tide of love sails against the tide of peoples’ perception; love sees no boundary; love is natural and it has no effect of the tear and wear of time. Loves blooms with time.

And this is what Mubina Parkar did for Shoeibh Ghansar, an accomplice of the Mumbai bomb blasts?

When did our cab arrive at the office I didn’t come to know? I get down from the cab and found the day was not at all different from the other day. The day has same work to slog upon.
